Esther Ortiz-Villajos

Exhibitor | Jewellery | 2023

Esther Ortiz-Villajos is a Spanish artist settled in Madrid. Combining craftsmanship and technology, jewellery is the artistic medium most capable of conveying her personal interests.

In her professional life she combines her facet as an architect with jewellery, which is directly influenced by the domain of geometry, the balance between form and function, and the control of structural and constructive processes carried to the object scale.

Fragile surfaces, loaded with suggestions, frozen in time, captured for memory, delimited in space and protected to perpetuate them intact and explore them in detail, just as they are.

‘The soil of the Moon was not uniformly scaly, but revealed irregular bare patches of pale, slippery clay… On the Moon there were vast areas we had never had any reason or curiosity to explore…’

‘The distance of the Moon’ Ítalo Calvino.

The projects that she develops arise from a specific attraction towards a concept, extracting it’s essence in pursuit of obtaining coherence between ideas, materials and techniques.

She works freely, exploring the possibilities of each material and precisely controlling the processes, whilst enjoying the surprise which might come from the unexpected.

Her work has been awarded at various international competitions and has been exhibited in several galleries and fairs abroad.
