Kinga Huber

Exhibitor | Jewellery | 2023

Kinga Huber, a jeweller, first tried her hand at jewellery at the Secondary School of Visual Arts, then continued her studies at the Department of Object Design at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. After graduation, she received a one-year scholarship from the Studio of Young Artists (FISE) to design a set of cutlery.

Three different designs were made, and she ended up with two small sets of spoons, knives and forks: one was later bought by the Museum of Applied Arts and the other by a German cutlery collector. As cutlery making was not overly popular in Hungary at the time, she was forced into a direction change.

Kinga has moved on to work in the film industry for about fifteen years, making special costumes for film productions and commercials. Around fourteen years ago, she returned to jewellery and – in particular – to the jewellery genre. She is a founding member of the Jewellery Night Budapest (ÉÉB), which has been organised for four years now by a team of young craftsmen. The event was created to promote contemporary jewellery to a wide audience.

"For me, the role of an object in conveying thoughts, feelings, opinions (especially if there's even a touch of humour in it) is of paramount importance! Beauty alone is not enough, there are countless beautiful jewels in the world - in addition to aesthetics, astonishment and sometimes even "repulsion" are necessary for an object to play its role of attracting attention and inciting new thoughts in people." - Kinga Huber
