Letícia Domingues is a jewellery artist living in Leipzig, Germany. She grew up in a small village in Portugal, from where she fled to Lisbon to study chemical engineering and begin an academic career in metal electrochemistry. Beyond her scientific interest, the beauty of the shine of freshly cut aluminium aroused her curiosity in its aesthetic qualities.
During a two-year stay in Tallahassee, Florida, USA, she took an introductory course in jewelry making at the Florida State University Art Center. At this time, and with the support of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths and their studio, she began to work more intensively with metalwork.
There is a symbiosis between perceived material properties and aesthetics that gives meaning to my work. The real, tangible physical surface and its visual texture evoke a sensory experience that resonates with our emotions. It raises expectations that, at times, can be misleading - or that can be deliberately subverted or made incongruous, dissonant.
From 2006 to 2009, now in Germany, she attended and graduated from the Berufskolleg für Design, Schmuck und Gerät, Goldschmiedeschule mit Uhrmacherschule Pforzheim. Since 2014, she has been working and living as a state-certified designer (jewellery and objects) in Leipzig, where she opened her own studio in 2021.
