Apple
As with all of Carols work this piece should be seen within the context of the current environmental crisis. It refers to the original banishment from the Garden of Eden but also our growing dependency on the virtual world and our estrangement from the nature. Like a precious pearl necklace, each crab-apple is graded before being cast. The resulting collective weight of the piece coupled with the blood red beads highlights our current failure to protect our planet, our Eden.
